What catches people out in New Hampshire

  • Operating in another state means another full set of these. A foreign qualification is a second registration: its own registered agent, its own report, its own fee. It is not an extension of your New Hampshire filing.

What happens if you miss it

$50 late fee. The end state is administrative dissolution. That is the part worth understanding: an administratively dissolved LLC stops existing as a legal entity, and the liability protection you formed it for stops with it. In some states that is applied retroactively. The late fee is annoying; losing the shield on a company that holds an asset is the actual risk.

New Hampshire accepts filings online at https://quickstart.sos.nh.gov/. You can absolutely do this yourself — most people can. The difficulty is never one filing, it is remembering the fourth one across three states in a year.

Doing it yourself vs having it handled

One company in New Hampshire and nothing else? File it yourself and set a calendar reminder. Our registered agent service is $99 a year if you want the address and the mail handled, and formation is $239 plus the state's $100.

Several companies, or any of them registered in more than one state, is a different problem. Autopilot is $3,500 a year and covers 15 company-state registrations: we are the agent, we track every obligation above, we file them, and if we miss one we pay the penalty and the reinstatement cost. It computes your obligations from each state's published rules and the formation dates you give us. It does not contact New Hampshire's registry, so it cannot tell you your current standing — we say so on the page too, because a tool that told you you were in good standing without having looked would be worse than no tool.
